Do's and Don'ts:
Querying a Publisher or a Literary Agent is no different from applying for a job or pitching a business idea. All communication must be carried out in a professional way. Agents and publishers can easily deduce from a query letter whether the author is worth their time or not. However, it is not an exact science. All you need to remember is to write a proposal in a way that represents your professionalism as a writer.
Here are some tips;
-
Follow the Submission Guidelines.
-
Give as much information about yourself.
-
Give as much information about your book.
-
Give as much information about your career.
-
All the information you provide must be clear and concise.
-
Avoid vulgarity.
-
Avoid sarcasm.
Remember, your proposal or query reflects your professionalism and writing skills. Impress the agent or the editor on the other side, enough to make them want to read more about you and what you've worked so hard to write!
We do our best to evaluate submissions within a week of when they were sent. Every proposal is carefully read and considered. You will not receive s detailed criticism of your work unless we are interested in publishing it.
Thank you for considering Iron Heart Publishing!
